I have made contact with my ninth grade teacher after about 50 years! I am hoping she will contribute to my lonesome blog but she may not realize how.
She can add a comment simply by clicking on the "comment link" at the end of each post that she wants to comment about.
OR she can sign in on the sign in button on the upper right (with ID=email address and any 8 character password she chooses) and can post comments whenever she signs in...

Yes. I confess that I taught John Austin in Key West, Florida in 1956 when he was a Freshman. His class was one of the best groups I ever had. Johnny had a special place in my memories because he was always trying to catch me in a mistake!
I possessed the ability to recall exactly where a particular lesson could be found in the text when I gave assignments. An ongoing contest ensued with Johnny, who would insist I had never taught that particular subject matter. We had a standing agreement that if he happened to catch me in error, I would say a Rosary for him. If he was wrong, he had to buy me a bag of bollos, deep-fried, Cuban “balls of fire” composed of garlic, hot pepper, and ground black-eyed peas. Poor Johnny, I never said a Rosary for him the entire year. The class would groan in unison whenever he popped up and said, “I’ve got you this time, Sister.” Then I would tell him to open the book to the page where he could find the text and what the date was when I had taught it. He always paid up within the week. I would hear my bell sound, and he would be at the foot of the stairs grinning widely, a steaming bag of the delicacies in his hand.
What a joy to renew our friendship 50 years later and witness how he has succeeded in his life and become an author in the process.
I am A fledgling author at best...But hope to become a published author one day.
I don't recall the "catch me in a mistake" contest (must be getting old!) but I am glad I paid up as promised! Could be I just wanted to buy you bollos.

Okay, Johnny, I'm going to try againand hope that both google and Yahoo will permit me to complete and publish this New Year's wish. It is a pleasure as your former teacher to know how well you have done and are continuing to use your skills to educate and entertain through the written word. My New Year's Toast for you is that 2009 will see the fruition of your ambitions to find an agent and publish your book successfully! Love, Jeanne
